Members of the Dufferin Detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) participated in Operation Safe Driver from July 12 to 18, 2026.
The initiative focused on reducing collisions involving commercial motor vehicles (CMVs) by addressing unsafe driving behaviours among commercial vehicle operators and other motorists.
During the campaign, officers conducted targeted enforcement and inspections, focusing on commercial vehicle safety, licensing, documentation, pre-trip inspections, hours-of-work requirements, and other high-risk driving behaviours.
As a result of the campaign, Dufferin OPP officers laid the following traffic-related charges involving commercial motor vehicles:
• Speeding – 1 charge
• Disobey sign – 1 charge
• Permits, plates and driver’s licences – 4 charges
• CMV documentation – 1 charge
• CMV inspection and maintenance – 12 charges
• Defective equipment/equipment – 4 charges
• Load and dimensions – 6 charges
TOTAL TRAFFIC-RELATED CMV CHARGES: 29
In addition, officers laid 217 other non-CMV-related traffic charges during the campaign period.
Motorists are reminded that commercial motor vehicles are large and heavy and require additional distance to stop. Leave plenty of space, avoid tailgating, do not use your phone while driving, signal your intentions, and drive safely around commercial vehicles.
Road safety is a shared responsibility. The Dufferin OPP remains committed to promoting safe roads and reducing collisions, injuries, and fatalities involving commercial motor vehicles.
