The Ontario Land Tribunal has turned down an appeal regarding a proposed development for a Tim Horton’s Restaurant on Airport Road in Caledon East.
The Tribunal’s ruling, issued July 15th, supports the Town’s position on multiple fronts, including the protection of designated heritage properties and the preservation of Caledon East’s small-town character. The decision upholds the Town’s Official Plan and Secondary Plan policies, which discourage drive-through service facilities in the historic village core.
The proposed development included a drive-through restaurant and two commercial units, which would require the demolition of two heritage-designated buildings.
The Tribunal found that the proposed development did not conform with the Town’s planning framework, citing concerns related to heritage conservation, urban design, traffic safety and landscaping.
