Dufferin OPP worked diligently to help keep residents and visitors safe during the Canada Day Traffic Campaign.
Between June 26 and July 5, 2026, officers conducted proactive traffic enforcement throughout the county, laying a total of 247 charges. Officers also conducted several R.I.D.E. spot checks and targeted enforcement on the “Big Four” contributing factors in serious and fatal collisions: impaired driving, distracted driving, speeding, and failure to wear a seatbelt.
Despite ongoing education and enforcement efforts, some motorists continue to make unsafe choices. During the campaign, officers laid the following charges:
• Speeding – 123
• Stunt driving/racing – 2
• Distracted driving – 12
• Impaired driving – 10
• Seatbelt offences – 28
In total, officers laid 247 charges during the campaign, with the remaining charges consisting of various Highway Traffic Act and related offences.
Dufferin OPP would like to thank the vast majority of road users who continue to obey traffic laws and help keep our roads safe. We also extend our appreciation to our dedicated officers for their continued commitment to protecting our communities through proactive traffic enforcement.
