The Town of Orangeville wishes to clarify that it has not banned e-scooters. E-scooters are only permitted in Ontario municipalities that choose to participate in the Province’s e-scooter pilot project and adopt local bylaws governing their use. Orangeville is not a part of the pilot; a position reaffirmed by council at its June 8 meeting.
Participating in the pilot would require municipal bylaws, enforcement considerations and community resources. Council also considered factors such as safety, accessibility, lessons learned from participating municipalities and the use of Orangeville’s shared public spaces.
As Orangeville is not participating in the pilot, e-scooters are not permitted in public spaces within Town.
