The Town of Caledon has launched a Lobbyist Registry to publicly document who is lobbying our public office holders.
The Lobbyist Registry is available online at www.caledon.ca/lobbyistregistry and provides residents with easy access to information about who is lobbying with Council, Committee of Adjustment members, Property Standards Committee members and statutorily appointed staff. The lobbyist registry outlines:
- Who is lobbying
- Who they are lobbying to
- The topic and subject matter
- The date the lobbying activity took place
“Open and transparent local government is a cornerstone of democracy,” said Mayor Annette Groves. “This new registry will give the public insight into the decisions being made at Council and help ensure that all voices are heard fairly and equally.”
The registry applies to individuals and organizations who communicate with members of Council or senior staff representing a business or financial interest to influence legislation. As of July 1, 2025, anyone taking part in lobbying as defined by the Lobbyist Registry By-law must register within ten (10) calendar days of any communication with a public office holder. Registration as a lobbyist should reflect the time period the lobbying occurs and can be for up to one year before resubmission.
“Lobbying is a legitimate activity, and the registry ensures transparency in Town of Caledon’s decisions,” commented Kevin Klingenberg, Municipal Clerk, Town of Caledon, who will serve as the Town’s Lobbyist Registrar. “It’s a milestone of service excellence and accountability enhancement for the public in alignment with the Town’s Strategic Plan implementation.”
