On September 18th at about 10:00 p.m., officers received a report of a carjacking in the area of Old School Road and Mississauga Road, in Caledon. The complainant alleged that their vehicle was involved in a collision and was then approached by two suspects, one of which was armed with a handgun. The suspects were then said to have stolen the vehicle and fled the area.
Detectives from the Caledon Major Crime Unit assisted with the investigation which ultimately revealed the complainant fabricated the report of the carjacking in a complex fraud scheme.
As a result of the investigation, a 38-year-old male and a 40-year-old male both from Brampton have been charged with:
- Public Mischief
- Fraud over $5000
